Camping in Big Bend National Park

You’ve probably heard about Big Bend National Park. But what’s it really all about? According to the US National Park Service, the name “Big Bend” was derived from “Big Dipper,” a Texas cattle trader who, in 1846, patented a bend in the Colorado River. Today, the park covers more than 400 square miles and is considered to be one of the largest natural preserves in the world.

Located in southwestern Texas, Big Bend is in the Chihuahuan Desert and includes the full Chisos mountains range and a wide stretch of the Chihuahuan Desert southwest through Juadilla, New Mexico. The Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive passes through the park and leads to the historic ruins of Sam Nail Mountain, now home to dry-land wildlife. The Santa Elena Canyon, sculpted by the Rio Grande, offers rugged limestone cliffs along the banks of Mexico’s western coast. And don’t forget the natural beauty of Bouldin Basin State Park, where abundant wildlife abounds. Langford Hot Springs rests among pine trees in a basin surrounded by cactus-studded desert. The nearby Old Town Square offers a breath-taking stroll across the sand dunes.

Because of its location in the middle of the Texas panhandle, Big Bend has long been known as a state park with a great deal to offer outdoors enthusiasts. In fact, many of Texas’ state parks are within a few hours of Big Bend. In fact, some have been established just east of the park boundary. There’s still plenty to do in and around the national park, including bird watching, hiking, RV tours, and horseback riding. Of course, the most famous thing to do in Bouldin is to take a hike into the sulfur hot springs, which remain open until April.

Another nearby attraction is Seven Devils Lodge, a legendary campground that has been described as “arguably the best Texas location to pitch your tent.” This campground is also in the Bouldin area. Amenities include modern amenities like swimming pools, playgrounds, and well-equipped bathrooms. The campground offers many different activities, such as hunting, boating, hiking, cycling, hiking, and fishing. The lodge is located on a two-acre site that boasts a modern convenience store, fire ring, and playground equipment. All the amenities are well maintained and convenient, and include a restaurant and pool.

Camping in Big Bend is another popular activity among outdoor enthusiasts, especially those who enjoy camping in all four seasons. Because there is so much to do in and around the park, campers often choose to camp at Six Flags Over Texas, a family-friendly amusement park that has several attractions including a huge roller coaster, interactive pond, as well as an adventurous boat ride. The park is only about thirty minutes from Houston and offers many fun family activities including thrilling roller coasters, water slides, and other exciting rides. With plenty of camping spots around the park, many travelers head out with their tents and cookouts outside.
