Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is a breathtaking natural wonder located in the western part of North Dakota. The park is named after the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, who was a passionate conservationist and played a key role in the creation of the national park system. Theodore Roosevelt National Park is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers, and history buffs alike, and offers visitors a wide range of activities and attractions. If you’re planning a visit to the park, here’s what you need to know about getting there.

By Car

The most common way to get to Theodore Roosevelt National Park is by car. The park is located near the town of Medora, which is easily accessible by major highways such as Interstate 94 and US Route 85. If you’re traveling from the east, take I-94 west to exit 24, then follow the signs to the park’s South Unit entrance. If you’re coming from the west, take US-85 south to the town of Belfield, then follow the signs to the park’s North Unit entrance.

Once you’re inside the park, there are several scenic drives and loops that will take you through some of the park’s most spectacular landscapes. The 36-mile scenic loop through the South Unit is a must-do, and takes visitors through the heart of the park’s badlands, past sweeping vistas and towering rock formations. The 14-mile loop through the North Unit is also a popular drive, and offers stunning views of the Little Missouri River and the surrounding prairies.

By Air

The closest major airport to Theodore Roosevelt National Park is the Bismarck Airport, which is located about 130 miles east of the park. The airport is served by several major airlines, including Delta, United, and American, and offers direct flights to several cities in the Midwest and western United States.

If you’re flying into Bismarck, you’ll need to rent a car or arrange for transportation to get to the park. There are several rental car companies located at the airport, and many hotels and tour companies in the area offer shuttle service to and from the park.

By Train

If you’re looking for a more unique and scenic way to get to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, consider taking the Amtrak Empire Builder. The Empire Builder is a long-distance passenger train that runs between Chicago and Seattle, and stops at several stations in North Dakota, including Minot and Williston, which are both within a few hours’ drive of the park.

The train offers stunning views of the prairies and Badlands of North Dakota, and is a relaxing and comfortable way to travel. Once you arrive at your station, you can rent a car or arrange for transportation to get to the park.

By Bus

There are several bus companies that offer service to the town of Medora, which is located just outside the park’s South Unit entrance. Companies such as Greyhound and Jefferson Lines offer daily service to Medora from cities throughout the region, including Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Fargo.

Once you arrive in Medora, you can rent a car or arrange for transportation to get to the park. There are several rental car companies located in Medora, and many hotels and tour companies in the area offer shuttle service to and from the park.

Getting Around the Park
