The New River Gorge National Park In Spring and SummerThe New River Gorge National Park and preserve are a vital unit of the U.S. National Park Service intended to preserve and protect the New River Gorge within the Appalachian Mountains in southeastern West Virginia. It is also one of the most visited National Parks in all of the United States.  The park also serves as a habitat for a variety of wildlife species that are indigenous to this area. One of the most popular activities that visitors can partake in while at the New River Gorge national park is hiking. There are two main hiking areas within the park: The Killarney Camping and Picnic Area and the Cedar Mountain Loop. To access either of these hiking areas, all that is needed is the use of a stable and level footpath. Accommodations are plentiful and there are many lodging options to choose from. There are camping options available, and the majority of these campgrounds are located on either the west or east sides of the park. There are numerous campgrounds that offer private and public accommodations. Those that choose to stay at one of these campsites will find there are many different options. From cabin rental spaces to RV Sites, to full site lodging, the choices for those looking to enjoy the New River Gorge National Park and the nearby mountains are endless.

Another great thing about the New River Gorge National Park and preserve are that there are various bus tours available. These tours offer visitors a chance to explore the region while at the same time seeing some of the most amazing scenery. These bus tours take visitors along some of the most beautiful trails and provide them with a chance to see some of the wilder habitats in the country. Most of these tours depart from the park’s entrance. The only way to get around the area is on foot and on a bike. Visitors that visit the New River Gorge National Park and preserve in May, July and August have a chance to experience the West Virginia summers. New River Gorge National Park and Preserve is located in southern West Virginia and has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Here’s an overview of the weather conditions you can expect at different times of the year:

  • Spring (March to May): Temperatures during this season can range from 40°F (4°C) to 70°F (21°C). Spring can be rainy, so visitors should bring rain gear and be prepared for occasional thunderstorms.
  • Summer (June to August): This is the warmest time of year, with temperatures reaching up to 90°F (32°C) during the day. Humidity can be high, so visitors should dress in lightweight, breathable clothing and stay hydrated.
  • Fall (September to November): Temperatures start to cool down during the fall, with daytime temperatures ranging from 50°F (10°C) to 70°F (21°C). Nights can be chilly, so visitors should bring a jacket or sweater.
  • Winter (December to February): Winter is the coldest time of year, with temperatures ranging from 20°F (-7°C) to 40°F (4°C). Snow is common, so visitors should be prepared for winter driving conditions and bring appropriate cold weather gear.
