Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona is home to much of America’s immense Grand Canyon, with its colorful layered bands of dark red sand revealing millions of year’s worth of geologic history. Outstandingly beautiful, it is one of nature’s marvels and is admired by millions of people from around the world. Most visitors to Grand Canyon National Park come for a day trip and stay overnight. There is so much to see and do while you’re there that you may wish to spend your entire vacation there!
The first time you visit the Park, make sure to hike to the rim over the Hualapai Lake. The rim is highest in the Grand Canyon, and the sun will start to heat it as soon as you get there. The water on the rim is cool, so you can sit by and enjoy watching the wildlife, or float along in a kayak and listen to the river. You can also go on an eco-tour designed to teach people about the state of conservation in the Grand Canyon National Park. Other Colorado River outfitters can help you plan a rafting trip on the Colorado River with out-of-state guide or show you the best fishing spots in the park.
The Colorado River is the lifeblood of Grand Canyon National Park. Millions of years ago, huge glaciers covered the Grand Canyon and today’s huge river flow through it, covering some 13 billion years of geologic time. Geologists believe these massive ice sheets contributed to the formation of the Grand Canyon. During the formation of this huge geological wonder, there must have been plenty of water available, and this is what allowed the Colorado to flourish.
Backpacking trips in the Grand Canyon can be made even more enjoyable when you bring your own camera, binoculars, water, and food with you. Not all of us can fit the equipment into our vehicles, so bringing extra supplies can help you explore more without having to pay extra fees for parking. There are several great campgrounds that are close to the entrance of Grand Canyon National Park and many of them have small amenities such as bathrooms, drinking water, and grocery stores close by.
When visiting the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, tourists should visit the Hopi tribe. The Hopi were forced to leave their reservation due to a new government policy. Because they did not want to leave their reservation, the United States government had no option but to leave them alone. They were given thirty days to pack up and move out of the area, or face arrest. The Hopi are very conservative and would rather lose their reservation then allow the government to come in and take their land.
It is best to visit the Grand Canyon National Monument before you go to Arizona. You will see much more of this spectacular region of the country if you spend time in Arizona. You will also be able to spend time on the land while you are there. It’s a great way to spend the day, and it is not a bad idea to bring a camera to capture the beauty that you see. Your experiences at the national park and at the Grand Canyon National Monument will give you memories you’ll want to share with your friends and family for years to come.
