Acadia National Park is an unspoiled natural coastal region mainly in Maine. It is noted for its mountainous terrain, wooded forests, abundant wildlife and spectacular marine life. It was one of the last continents to be discovered by European explorers and is now considered to be the most treasured natural park in North America. The scenery is characterized by cliffs, sandy beaches and rugged glaciers including colossal mountain peaks of the Great Himalayas, Cadillac Mountain and the second highest peak in the United States, Mount Mitchell.
The main attractions of the Acadia National Park are its vast forests and the granite peaks of Mount Mitchell, which tower above the harbour and the surrounding communities. Among the rarest wildlife found in this Park are gray whales, seals, deer, moose and pelicans. The island’s seal colonies have been the focus of a research project since 1998, which has resulted in the discovery of a new species of bear that lives only in the Acadiana Region.
Travelers who want to experience a wilderness haven with magnificent scenery must consider the Acadia National Park. There are two main tourist destinations of Acadia National Park: Mount Desert Island and Bar Harbor. The island, which was discovered by Canadian fur traders in the 1800s, was designated a national park in 1970. A tour of the interior of Mount Desert Island is the highlight of any trip to the park. Here tourists can go bird-watching, hiking, canoeing or participate in several activities on sandy beaches.
Bar Harbor is on the eastern tip of Acadia National Park and offers lodging options right next to picturesque mountain peaks. Its picturesque mountains are also lined with eight lodges, many of which are situated at different points along the coast. Visitors can take a walking tour of the mountains from one of the bar harbors on Mount Desert Island or, for a unique way, take a remote control boat ride. Visitors can take a helicopter tour of the entire park during summer, which enables them to see astounding scenes of rolling waves and deep valleys. During winter, snowshoes are allowed to explore the loveliest areas.
For those willing to venture into the wilderness on foot, Mount Desert Island offers beautiful hiking routes and other nature trails. Walking to the coast and back is a spectacular experience. Bar Harbor’s rustic stores offer souvenirs from the Acadiana region and other New England states. It also boasts an antique market. On the other hand, visitors who prefer to travel by train can make reservations at the nearby Portland train station or leisurely stroll through the Main Street on their way to Bar Harbor.
Travelers may want to consider the opportunities that arise within the public domain when visiting Acadia National Park. Public domain properties offer visitors opportunities to view and experience the unique history, culture, wildlife and natural environment of this extraordinary area. In addition to Mount Desert Island, other notable properties in the park include Castle Rock (also known as moat), Cape Breton Island, Long Island Sound and Shelter Cove. In colonial days, these lands were owned by British settlers, who established homes and farms on each of the properties. Today, visitors have a chance to experience the same tranquilizing experience while exploring the expansive wilderness.
